Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is common. It can mean irregular or absent ovulation, irregular periods and higher levels of some hormones. It looks different in every person.

How it can affect trying

When ovulation is irregular, it is harder to know when the fertile window is. LH tests can also be harder to read, because LH can be raised at other times in the cycle.

Many people with PCOS do conceive. Guidelines describe several options that a doctor can discuss, depending on the person.

What guidelines suggest

The international PCOS guideline recommends that people with PCOS who are trying to conceive talk to a doctor, and it describes healthy lifestyle habits as helpful for general health. Your doctor can explain what fits your situation.
